Laura Affolter’s photography and experimental films draw from her family history and childhood experiences growing up in rural Oregon. Her cinematic photographs and dreamy films are heavy with nostalgia and explores issues surrounding her own personal identity in relation to her physical space and emotional ties, and as well as the construction of identity, especially queer identity, within our sociopolitical, geographic, and cultural locations. She is currently living and working in Hamburg, Germany, where she collaborates with various musicians and creatives. Her photographic work has been created in many different places, including all parts of Oregon, Seattle, Paris, Madrid, and many parts of Germany. She is also heavily involved with art education through many faucets, working with nonprofit organizations, art museums, and public schools.
